Johannes Biala is the director of the Centre for Recycling of Organic Waste and Nutrients of the University of Queensland.The main R&D activities at present are (i) to determine nutrient contributions from organic soil amendments to crop nutrition and to develop a nutrient calculator for farmers that use such products;(ii) to develop a means of reducing ammonia losses during layer manure composting without altering economic outcomes; and(iii) to develop the Organics Recycling Supply Chain Business Model that will link generators, processors and users of recycled organic products, showing the technical and economic viability of various organics recycling supply chains.
