1.山梨醇在苹果碳水化合物代谢和花发育中的作用

1.The Role of Sorbitol in Carbohydrate Metabolism and Flower Development of Apple

All pome and stone fruits of the Rosaceae family, such as apple, pear, peach and cherry, synthesize, transport, and utilize both sorbitol and sucrose, with sorbitol being predominant. This contrasts with most other plants where sucrose is the only sugar translocated from source leaves to sink organs. The presence of sorbitol in these tree fruits raises an interesting question as to its function in carbohydrate metabolism, tree growth and development, and stress tolerance. In this talk, I’ll first discuss how carbohydrate metabolism in both source and sink organs responds to an alteration in sorbitol synthesis and the compensatory mechanisms involved, and then use flower development as an example to illustrate the role of sorbitol as a signaling molecule in regulating stamen development and pollen tube growth of apple.

2.The Evolution/Revolution in Apple Planting Systems and Rootstock

Over the last 50 years there has been a constant evolution or revolution in orchard planting systems and rootstocks for apples. This history will be reviewed and an assessment of the current state of apple production systems and rootstocks will be discussed. Lastly the future trends will be assessed and conclusions for the future presented.
